MATERIALS 

REQUIRED 

• Basic Clay Toolkit, including kidney, clay cutters, throwing sponge, needle tool. (These can be purchased from the studios)
• Wet and Dry sandpaper 
• Towel/ tea towel for throwing 
• Respiratory mask suitable for filtering dust particles. N95 or P2/3 rating.  
• Plastic sheets for covering clay

RECOMMENDED 

• Newspaper for bats and storing works. 
• Apron or smock. Ideally PVC/vinyl or nonabsorbent material.

Term 1 2025- Paint and Draw

WED 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

9 Sessions

Painting and Drawing on Wednesday mornings from 9.30am - 12.30pm is suitable for beginners and intermediate level. You can either work on your drawing or painting skills.

Embark on an engaging artistic journey in our specially tailored drawing and painting course, suitable for both absolute beginners and experienced artists under the guidance of our seasoned tutor, David Pavich.  Delve into the fundamentals, unraveling the intricacies of materials, composition, and color mixing, progressing seamlessly from sketch to vibrant, finished paintings across various subjects like still life, portraits, the human figure, landscapes, and animal anatomy.

For seasoned artists, this course serves as a dynamic refresher, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and fostering a distinctive creative flair, whether through drawing, painting, or a blend of both. Designed as an ongoing experience, participants are encouraged to re-enroll, facilitating continuous skill refinement. Our adept instructor tailors each session to accommodate varying experience levels within the group, ensuring a nurturing and inspiring learning environment.

A Rag AND FOR BEGINNERS (NEVER PAINTED BEFORE): One tube of black and one tube of white acrylic paint, either acrylic or oil paint. If you don’t know which you prefer then start with acrylic.(many brands available. Term 1 2025 - Abstract Art with Abby Chambers 9 week course

9 week term 

Abstract Art class offers a friendly studio environment where you will have your own easel and table to set up your painting practice. Abstraction is about the pure essentials of art making, such as shape, line, colour, composition and tone. A language of it’s own, we look at contemporary artists and the way inspiration can be found through many different formats to arrive at abstraction. Many find a freedom and discovery of personal expression in moving away from recognisable form. You will have ongoing individual direction as you work on developing your own painting practice.

Term 1 2025  Essence of Watercolours

This class will provide instruction on every aspect of watercolour painting. From washes to colour temperatures, from texture to travel pics. We will show you step by step how to approach a difficult landscape to an easy still life. All welcome from beginners to advanced. The class starts promptly at 9 and finishes at 11.30 each week.

What to Bring

Warm and cool tube colours such as cadmium red alizarin crimson ultramarine blue cerulean blue lemon yellow cadmium yellow deep quinachrodone gold and indigo as staples but you will be adding other colours as you progress. Please buy single sheet Arches paper 300gsm medium. Don’t buy cheap watercolour pads. Only cotton paper not wood pulp as you won’t be able to follow the lessons without good quality paper. Silver black velvet brand brushes are excellent for the beginner in various sizes of rounds plus a 1” flat or a mop brush for large washes.

Term 1 2025 Yoga - Lane Cove Uniting Church

Lyn Brackell took up yoga 15 years ago to keep active but more importantly to find an inner strength to help her deal with the challenges of life. Now in her senior years, she has found that she is more resilient and have gained not only better health, but a freshness of mind with a brighter outlook on life.

The flowing yoga she teaches is a gentle but powerful way to relieve stress, build inner strength and condition your body. Based on fluid movements and controlled breathing, it rebalances as it exercises and energises. It is one of the most effective antidotes for modern day living and suits any age or fitness level.

The yoga classes are held at the Lane Cove Uniting Church on Figtree Street in Lane Cove.

Beginners - Intermediate Composition & Collage Course

Deborah Marks

Discover the highly creative realm of collage, while learning the art of visual
composition. Using the elements and principles of design and colour to investigate
compositional structures we will explore the varied possibilities of collage. We will
investigate a wide range of approaches and styles to this art form, stimulating your
imagination to discover creative possibilities.

In this practical course Deborah Marks will guide you through structured weekly
exercises which involve exploring colour schemes as well as the elements,
structures and principles of composition. Using the weekly brief as a planned
structure, students are then encouraged to use their intuition and emotion to guide
their decision making. The medium of collage allows for the combination of
knowledge as well as intuition, chance and accident in the creative process to
produce highly original and unique artworks.
Techniques of collage will be explored and demonstrated. Individual guidance as
well as group critiques will be given in order to facilitate the deeper understanding
of this medium and its creative possibilities.

TERM 1 2025 Intermediate / continuing Wheel Forming - Thursday nights

Join us in a hands-on exploration of ceramic artistry with our Introduction to Wheel Throwing class. This course offers a journey into the fundamentals of wheel throwing guided by our skilled instructor and ceramicist Warren Hodge. Discover the art of shaping clay on a pottery wheel, from centering to creating functional and decorative forms. Creative Video Making

These ongoing sessions provide a friendly environment to explore, learn and practice using video as an art medium. This project-based course is suitable for beginners, intermediate and experienced videomakers. You will have the opportunity to experiment and learn at your level, enriching your work with tips from an experienced artist and example from contemporary art and cinema. We will meet in person and online to plan, shoot and edit beautiful videos inspired by contemporary artists.

If you are new to video, you will learn the essentials of developing an original and professional work – from idea and shooting on a smartphone, to editing and post-production. You will be guided to download and navigate the free software you need to add the professional finishing touches to your project.

For the more experienced video maker, this course serves as a refresher, an opportunity to experiment with, develop and strengthen your distinctive creative voice. Participants are encouraged to re-enroll, facilitating continuous skill refinement. Our seasoned instructor tailors each session to accommodate varying experience levels within the group, ensuring a nurturing and inspiring learning environment.

This class is suitable for those looking for inspiration of what to paint and draw!  Each week there will be a different set up of objects to to work from.  There are no limits to the way you paint or draw from the subject matter, and for those with less experience there will have an option to follow along with an exercise of the week. This is an opportunity for tailored tutoring, mindful drawing or building a portfolio. A friendly studio environment where experimentation is encouraged.

PRINTMAKING WITH SUSAN BARAN Term 1 2025

Learn safer printmaking in our well equipped studio exploring techniques like Solarplates, aluminium etching, collagraphs and Linocuts.

This class encourages creative freedom at the individual’s own pace and caters to all levels, from beginners to the more experienced students wanting to further skills.
