Energy Image Flow: Introductory Qigong Series

Reconnect with your breath and body through gentle, flowing movements inspired by nature and ancient Chinese wisdom. This introductory series explores Qigong, a practice of energy cultivation that combines movement, breath, and imagery to promote calm, clarity, and vitality.

Each session begins with a warm-up, followed by Five Element flows—grounding the body, relaxing the muscles, and quieting the mind. No experience needed. All are welcome.

About the Instructor – Lian Loke

Lian Loke is a multidisciplinary movement artist based in Warrane/Sydney, with a deep passion for exploring how movement transforms the body and mind. Her practice blends traditional energy cultivation with creative imagery and embodied exploration, offering a unique and immersive approach to Qigong.

From 1998 to 2006, Lian trained under American choreographer Annetta Luce in somatic and shamanic dance practices, drawing on Body-Mind Centering and Qigong principles. She continues her studies in Qigong with renowned teacher Lee Holden and has trained in the Japanese Bodyweather dance methodology with de Quincey Co since 2007.

Lian’s teaching invites participants to connect with breath, flow, and nature-based imagery, creating space for calm, vitality, and personal transformation. Her classes are accessible to all levels and designed to support wellbeing through gentle, mindful movement.

Absolute Beginners Wheel Throwing is the perfect class for those with zero pottery experience. This short course is an excellent way to try your hand at wheel throwing. You'll learn the essentials of working with a pottery wheel, from clay basics to creating functional pottery pieces. Our supportive environment ensures you'll gain hands-on experience, develop creative skills, and enjoy the therapeutic nature of pottery whilst our experienced teacher Sol guides your through the process. Join us on Wednesday  evenings and discover the joy of transforming clay into beautiful creations. This class is the ideal starting point for your pottery journey. Should you wish to continue on after the completion our 9 week term classes will be perfect for you to continue developing your skills once you have learnt the basics.

This class is 4 sessions over 5 weeks. The first 3 weeks will be spent learning to throw and how to clean and trim your work. At week 4 there will be a scheduled 1 week break to allow for firing and then you will return to the studio for one shorter lesson where you can learn to glaze your works. 

We recommend bringing along an old towel and an apron to protect your clothes. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy. All basic tools are provided by the studios however we do have toolkit available for purchase if you would prefer your own set of tools.

Glaze Development Workshop Plan (4 Sessions)

This four-session workshop introduces glaze development through hands-on experimentation, focusing on test tile preparation, systematic blending, material testing, firing, and result analysis with colorant additions. We will develop a number of glazes, and you will learn how to develop your own recipes. The sessions are spaced over the term to allow time for the tests to be fired – so when we arrive back they are available. No prior knowledge of glaze making is needed.

Brett Smout stamp workshop

Making and using clay stamps.

Suits beginners to experienced clay players

Pressing stamps into clay is so much fun!  Choosing the right stamp for the piece, feeling the stamp sink into the clay, and lifting it off to reveal the fresh imprint. Perhaps again and again.

In this workshop you will learn different ways of making and using clay stamps. You will learn how to make stamps from buttons, 3D prints, drawings, found objects, and from natural and fabricated patterns.

There will be an extensive display of stamps so you can begin or add to your own stamp collection. Even if you have never used clay before, you will be able to make several stamps and two stamped dishes to take home raw or put through the bisque firing service. Clay for this is included, as is the bisque firing.

Understanding Colour with Deborah Marks

Come and enjoy a weekend workshop exploring colour relationships and our visual
reactions to them. Through a systematic study of colour relationships, we will see the
reactions different colours have when placed next to each other, as well as feeling colour
relatedness. We will explore the dimensions of colour - hue, value, intensity and
temperature.
This is a structured workshop where students are guided through in depth colour mixing
exercises including primary, secondary and tertiary colours, painted within a grid pattern.
Students then create their own design based on principles of design and explore
harmonies and contrasts of their chosen colour scheme.
This workshop gives you the opportunity to focus, structure and make sense of this broad
subject. It is suitable for beginners and those who would like to understand colour and its
relationships more fully.

Monoprinting Workshop with Andrew Totman

Sunday 23 November 10am-4pm

Join master printmaker, Andrew Totman for A Day of Monoprinting workshop.  Totman will introduce the participants to a variety of colour printmaking techniques for producing sensitive layered and bold multiple plate prints through step-by-step demonstrations and explanations.

You will learn a range of mark-making methods, from customary to more experimental techniques using paper stencils, found objects such as leaves or feathers. By the end of the session, you will have a small portfolio of unique prints to take home.

This workshop is open for both novice and more advanced students with Totman providing individualised attention to help each student.

Lyn Brackell took up yoga 15 years ago to keep active but more importantly to find an inner strength to help her deal with the challenges of life. Now in her senior years, she has found that she is more resilient and have gained not only better health, but a freshness of mind with a brighter outlook on life.

The flowing yoga she teaches is a gentle but powerful way to relieve stress, build inner strength and condition your body. A 30-minute induction session must be booked at the time of booking Studio Time.

Painting and Drawing on Wednesday mornings from 9.30am - 12.30pm is suitable for beginners and intermediate level. You can either work on your drawing or painting skills.

Discover the highly creative realm of collage, while learning the art of visual
composition. Using the elements and principles of design and colour to investigate
compositional structures we will explore the varied possibilities of collage. We will
investigate a wide range of approaches and styles to this art form, stimulating your
imagination to discover creative possibilities.

In this practical course Deborah Marks will guide you through structured weekly
exercises which involve exploring colour schemes as well as the elements,
structures and principles of composition. Using the weekly brief as a planned
structure, students are then encouraged to use their intuition and emotion to guide
their decision making. The medium of collage allows for the combination of
knowledge as well as intuition, chance and accident in the creative process to
produce highly original and unique artworks.
Techniques of collage will be explored and demonstrated. Individual guidance as
well as group critiques will be given in order to facilitate the deeper understanding
of this medium and its creative possibilities.

This children’s art class focuses on drawing, painting, and a variety of crafts to nurture creative expression and enhance observational skills.

Students will explore an extensive range of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, pastels, ink, pencils, and collage, to create their artworks. The class will also delve into craft techniques for sculpture and three-dimensional forms, such as weaving and paper-mâché.

Participants will have the chance to visit the Gallery and engage with current exhibitions through art projects. Additionally, the class structure allows students to collaboratively shape their learning journey, selecting subjects, techniques, or materials they wish to explore, all with supportive guidance.

This pottery class is suitable for beginners and for experienced young potters. Over the nine week term, children will make non-functional sculptural pieces and functional domestic wares such as bowls and plates. We will use a wide range of pottery building techniques such as coiling, pinching, and slab construction. Additionally, we will be exploring many different decorative surface treatments such as glazing, stamping, carving, and slip trailing. 

No experience necessary. Cost of materials and firing included.

POTTERY STUDIO SESSION ONLY- December 9th NO TUTOR

FOR EXPERIENCED STUDENTS ONLY. YOU MUST HAVE COMPLETED AN INDUCTION FIRST TO BOOK INTO THESE TUTOR FREE SESSIONS.

Studio Time is available exclusively for experienced pottery students – no teacher will be present.
It's a chance to work independently, refine your techniques, and build on what you’ve already learned. This is for past students of our studios or experienced potters. If you are unsure whether this is for you, please contact the gallery first to check before booking in

A 30-minute induction session must be booked at the time of booking Studio Time. All students must have completed an induction prior to attending a pottery studio session.

Please note this is for 1 session only. You will need to do an induction session first before attending any drop in classes .Once you have done the induction, it is valid for 12 months.

MATERIALS 

REQUIRED 

  • Basic Clay Toolkit, including kidney, clay cutters, throwing sponge, needle tool. (These can be purchased from the studios)
  • Wet and Dry sandpaper
  • Towel/ tea towel for throwing
  • Respiratory mask suitable for filtering dust particles. N95 or P2/3 rating.
  • Plastic sheets for covering clay

RECOMMENDED 

  • Newspaper for bats and storing works.
  • Apron or smock. Ideally PVC/vinyl or nonabsorbent material.

Clay can be purchased online from the studios during class. Please see terms and conditions for further information.

IMPORTANT: ALL DROP IN STUDENTS MUST ENSURE THAT THEIR WORKS ARE KEPT IN A SEPARATE CARTON AND CLEARLY LABELLED, WITH NAME AND CONTACT DETAILS, IN THE KILN QUEUE TO ENSURE THAT THEY WILL BE NOTIFIED ONCE THE WORKS HAVE BEEN FIRED. DROP IN STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING ALL CLAY AND WORKS HOME WITH THEM AFTER THE CLASS UNLESS BACK TO BACK CLASSES HAVE BEEN BOOKED.
