- Wet and Dry sandpaper
- Towel/ tea towel for throwing
- Respiratory mask suitable for filtering dust particles. N95 or P2/3 rating.
- Plastic sheets for covering clay
RECOMMENDED
- Newspaper for bats and storing works.

Beginners - Intermediate Composition & Collage Course

Discover the highly creative realm of collage, while learning the art of visual
composition. Using the elements and principles of design and colour to investigate
compositional structures we will explore the varied possibilities of collage. We will
investigate a wide range of approaches and styles to this art form, stimulating your
imagination to discover creative possibilities.
In this practical course Deborah Marks will guide you through structured weekly
exercises which involve exploring colour schemes as well as the elements,
structures and principles of composition. Using the weekly brief as a planned
structure, students are then encouraged to use their intuition and emotion to guide
their decision making. The medium of collage allows for the combination of
knowledge as well as intuition, chance and accident in the creative process to
produce highly original and unique artworks.
Techniques of collage will be explored and demonstrated. Individual guidance as
well as group critiques will be given in order to facilitate the deeper understanding
of this medium and its creative possibilities.

Abstract Art class offers a friendly studio environment where you will have your own easel and table to set up your painting practice. Abstraction is about the pure essentials of art making, such as shape, line, colour, composition and tone. A language of it’s own, we look at contemporary artists and the way inspiration can be found through many different formats to arrive at abstraction. Many find a freedom and discovery of personal expression in moving away from recognisable form. You will have ongoing individual direction as you work on developing your own painting practice.

Studio Time is available exclusively for experienced pottery students – no teacher will be present.
It's a chance to work independently, refine your techniques, and build on what you’ve already learned. This is for past students of our studios or experienced potters. If you are unsure whether this is for you, please contact the gallery first to check before booking in

A 30-minute induction session must be booked at the time of booking Studio Time. All students must have completed an induction prior to attending a pottery studio session.

Please note this is for 1 session only. You will need to do an induction session first before attending any drop in classes .Once you have done the induction, it is valid for 12 months.

MATERIALS
REQUIRED
- Basic Clay Toolkit, including kidney, clay cutters, throwing sponge, needle tool. (These can be purchased from the studios)
- Wet and Dry sandpaper
- Towel/ tea towel for throwing
- Respiratory mask suitable for filtering dust particles. N95 or P2/3 rating.
- Plastic sheets for covering clay
RECOMMENDED
- Newspaper for bats and storing works.
- Apron or smock. Ideally PVC/vinyl or nonabsorbent material.
Clay can be purchased online from the studios during class. Please see terms and conditions for further information.
